It was JUST starting to rain as we got back to the resort, so we had perfect timing. We got back to the room and Jessie took a quick nap. I enjoyed the AC and ended up catching up with some (work) chatter from home.
Once we’d sufficiently cooled off, made a food plan for the evening, and it looked like the storm risk had lessened dramatically, we headed for the bus stop. We didn’t have to wait all that long for a bus to show up, but when it did…woah. It was a FULL bus that had to continue on to Riverside. And no one was following bus driver instructions. But eventually we were on the bus for our tour of Riverside. This tour included exiting the bus on at least one occasion to let ECVs off the bus. By the time we were truly on our way to Epcot, the bus was actually pretty empty, because a second Epcot bus had come along behind us, and actually passed us as our bus dealt with all of the scooters. So this trip took a bit, but really was the only bus “issue” of the trip, and it really can’t even be called an issue. Spoiler alert; it was a really good bus luck trip.
When we got to Epcot, we worked our way straight to World Showcase. Our first stop was Refreshment Port. This is a year-round site, but they had numerous festival offerings. Between the two of us we got the braised beef poutine, the maple boursin cheesecake, the frozen mango martini and the blackberry hard cider. Everything was fantastic. These festival offerings were a definite win!
We then headed deeper into World Showcase. Our next stop as we wandered was France, where we took some pictures, because World Showcase. Then we embraced our beef, potatoes and gravy tour of Disney and had the beef dish from the festival booth. It was fantastic. Great flavors!
Next up was Brazil and Belgium. We’ll count them together since they practically share a line and I know we were being rained on while eating food from both booths. Google is being weird and not letting me show you the picture from Belgium because I didn’t take it, but we got the cheese bread and frozen caipirinha from Brazil and the beef and potatoes from Belgium. The beef and potatoes was nothing to look at (picture beef stew), but it was delicious. Kind of sweet actually. Really enjoyed it. The cheese bread from Brazil was also delicious. The frozen caipirinha was refreshing and very drinkable (when the paper straw wasn’t dissolving from the rain…), but it did NOT taste anything like the regular caipirinhas I’ve had before. So…drinkable but…
From here we wandered over to Japan because while it wasn’t raining hard by FL standards, it was definitely raining harder and Japan has a nice big store to kill time in. This strategy worked very well and by the time we finished browsing, it had truly stopped raining. We then took some pictures, a process that had both us and the photographer laughing, probably for different reasons.
Then it was time to work our way back toward the front of the park. We divided and conquered at the Shimmering Sips and Hawaii booths. I snagged the guava mousse and Jessie snagged the passion fruit cheesecake. The view was lovely. So was the passion fruit cheesecake. The guava mousse was the true disappointment of the festival. I’m not sure if it had inadvertently been frozen, but…that was not mousse. And the flavor was just wrong. Skip this one.
We then headed to our last food booth of the evening, Coastal Eats. We both got a Cape Codder. These were fantastic. A little bit different than a standard Cape Codder; they had some extra fruit juices in them. Great flavor and a top notch cocktail.
Now, story time. By now, we’d noticed that I was getting carded everywhere. Jessie was not. We were joking about this at this booth and had the girls working there cracking up. This will make a comeback later in the trip…
So…cocktails in hand, we headed to the front of the park. We wanted to catch the Be Our Guest Beacon of Magic “show”. We did quite a bit of Spaceship Earth picture taking prior to that, because it’s just stunning at night.
The Be Our Guest thing was awesome. Loved it. The video is on my facebook page.
After that, we did a bit more picture taking, because Disney did this Beacon of Magic stuff right in this park.
We then headed for the exit. Tomorrow would be a lengthy day and we both were ready to call it a night, ahead of the post fireworks mass exodus. Thankfully they had divided up the Port Orleans resorts for the buses for the night and a French Quarter bus pulled up as we got there. It was an uneventful ride back to the resort.
Once back at the resort, we headed for the food court to get forks for that dole whip cupcake that hadn’t been eaten yet, and to fill up our mugs for the evening. On our way, there was a cast member handing out beignet samples. They were bite sized pieces. Heck yes!
When we got back to the room we split that dole whip cupcake. That thing was everything a cupcake should be. Holy wow. SO GOOD! That should be a year round offering.
Then we crashed for the night. It had been a great day!
