All things considered, I was awake too early. But, so be it. I enjoyed the view for a bit and then got up, ate my apple strudel from the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth and finished packing. Then while Nick finished packing, I went down to the lobby to grab a luggage cart. It’s amazing how much stuff accumulates on a road trip!
We loaded up the luggage cart, called down to valet for the car, and enjoyed the view for a few more minutes.
Then we wrangled the luggage cart around the round hallways into the elevator, and headed for the lobby where we checked out and loaded the car up while chatting with the valet guy. Then we programmed the GPS and got on the road.
Our border crossing at the Rainbow Bridge (what a terrible name for a bridge…) was shockingly easy and we were back in the States in no time.
The drive across NY was long and kinda boring, but that also meant it was uneventful. And then the rest of our drive home was easy.
We got home around 4 and we were greeted enthusiastically by Gizmo. See, while on our sunset cruise, approximately 15 hours before the dogs were scheduled to be dropped off at the kennel, the kennel asked for a health certificate from the vet for Gizmo because of his age. We knew this would be exceptionally difficult to get with just a few hours notice. We also knew that Gizmo has had a limp after laying down, and so we fully expected given that new requirement for him to be booted from the kennel because of his limp. So, while driving across the UP of Michigan, we made arrangements for my in laws to still drop Snow off at the kennel, and to drop Gizmo off at our house. Jessie, ever our household life saver, stopped in a few times to feed him, take him out, and visit with him over the course of the weekend. He made a new friend and we didn’t get blacklisted with the kennel. So needless to say, he was very excited when we pulled in the driveway!
Final thoughts:
That was a lot of driving but well worth it.
Niagara Falls was just as beautiful as I had hoped.
I have no desire to return to Indiana.
I will always try to find the reliable amateur weather forecasts/nerds before a trip, because their forecasts are much more reliable than the official forecasts.
My new tires are fantastic, but definitely were not a souvenir I wanted.
I need to spend more time in Michigan.
The Cedar Point app is pretty much useless.
Get the multi-attraction pass when you visit Niagara Falls.
I need to plan more trips to Canada.
We ended up getting eyes on all of the Great Lakes on this trip, which I think is just a really fun fact.
I’m so glad we did this trip.
