Day 2, Part 2: Tuesday April 26, 2016
When we hopped back in the car at Robert is Here, I programmed the Cape Florida lighthouse on Key Biscayne into the phone GPS. It was a gorgeous day, it was kind of on the way back to the hotel, and all the pictures I’d seen made me really want to go for the photo ops.
We headed back toward Miami on Route 1, but eventually the GPS detoured us through some neighborhoods for several miles. It was a MUCH nicer ride, even though it took about the same amount of time. This area was beautiful, unlike the commercial area that is all of route 1.
Eventually, we drove over the bridge onto Key Biscayne, and made our way to Bill Baggs state park, home of the Cape Florida lighthouse. The parking lot was extensive and it wasn’t obvious where the easiest access to the good views was, so we just parked at the end of the lot farthest into the park and started walking around. I’ll let the pictures do the talking. It was a BEAUTIFUL place.
Once we’d had our fill of sightseeing, we hopped back in the car and, after a few scenic detours because my GPS failed and I decided to pretend I knew where I was going while Nick tried to figure out how to program his phone (seriously...what 29 year old doesn’t know how to use the GPS on their phone these days?!), we made it back to the hotel.
We headed straight for the elevator, where we discovered the key didn’t work. I guess this is the perk to big city hotels requiring your key card to access room floors? Finding out the keys don’t work before actually arriving at your room?
We walked back to the front desk where the girl who had checked us in the day before seemed to know exactly why we were there. She was on the phone but signaled for our keys and asked what room number. After a bit of typing our keys were handed back and we were on our way.
I had kind of figured that might happen. When I did 2 reservations for a combo of points and cash last year in Alabama we had to have the keys reprogrammed the day the reservation switched. But she had said we were all set for both nights…
Once back in the room, I watched that Celebrity ship start to make the turn to go out to sea. Then it was dinner time. Nick managed to keep himself awake on the ride back to Miami by trying to find a place for dinner. Turns out the Italian restaurant in the hotel, Primo’s was pretty highly rated, so we decided to be lazy and go there for dinner.
We were seated immediately and bread service was good. Nick got the pasta which was some sort of seafood ravioli. He all but licked the plate. I got the spaghetti and “world famous” meatballs. The meatballs WERE fantastic, and the sauce was really good. Some of the spaghetti was good, but some was kinda undercooked...like one step above still crackable. Hmm.
After dinner, Nick was still hungry, so we headed over to that deli for him to get himself a second meal. I think he got some sort of fish and mashed potatoes. He also got cheesecake for us to share. We then took all of that back to the room. Sorry housekeeping! At least it’s not fried chicken and beignets with 10 pounds of powdered sugar like in New Orleans?
After Nick’s second meal, I changed and we headed up to the pool deck. I had to try the hot tub here. Why? Because it was actually big enough to sit in without sitting on top of the other people in it.
It was a very breezy evening, so I didn’t even think about swimming in the pool. Hot tub only! It was the perfect temperature and so nice to have my own section. We stayed up on the pool deck for awhile before heading back to the room for showers and packing, before collapsing into bed. Tomorrow is the day we’ve been waiting for, for a long time!
