It’ll come to nobody’s surprise (well, if you’ve read one of my trip reports before) that I was awake quite early. The rest of the family? Not so much. It was evident that it was still foggy out, so I didn’t rush to get up to take pictures.
Everyone else started coming to life closer to 7:30, so at that point, I stepped out onto the balcony and took in the foggy view.
About the same time my I was pretty sure my stomach was going to start growling loudly enough to be heard in NH, everyone decided today was the day to go out for breakfast. Nick is all about breakfast, and we had timed entry tickets to play tourist for the next day. So today is breakfast day! Since I was dressed already, my job was to figure out where to go, that we could get a good, reasonable breakfast, and eat outside.
A few minutes on TripAdvisor later, I had found our breakfast destination. About that same time, everyone was ready, so we piled into John’s car and made the 20 minute trip into Boothbay Harbor. We lucked out and found a parking spot on the street almost directly across from the Blue Moon Cafe.
Blue Moon Cafe is ON the water. It’s an order at the counter and they deliver the food to the table you’ve been staking out kind of place. Unfortunately, in the time it took us to decide what we were ordering, the tables on the patio overlooking the harbor were taken. Indoors had all the windows open and a great view, but...Kim isn’t ready for that yet. So, out front we went. While waiting for our breakfast to arrive, we found a sign of the times.
Blue Moon Cafe is a tiny little place, cranking out some amazing scents while you wait for your food. And the food was worth enduring those scents. I had french toast, Nick had hash, eggs and toast, John had a breakfast sandwich and Kim had a breakfast wrap. It was all fantastic, and very reasonably priced. We would absolutely eat here again.
After breakfast we started wandering, checking out the stores around town, which, surprisingly, had already opened. We quickly found that Boothbay Harbor has awesome little shops, a good sense of humor, and some photo opps. Many of the shops back right up to the water. We loved this town.
Our wandering eventually took us to the footbridge. Despite the fog, it was still a beautiful spot.
