It should come as no surprise that I was awake early this morning. Eventually I opened the blackout shades (which were phenomenal) using the control on the wall beside the bed (!) and enjoyed the view while Nick came to life.
We got ready and headed for breakfast. We were a few minutes early for our 6:45 am reservation at The Henry, next door at the Cosmo, but it was a non-issue. We both agreed we preferred the Strip at this hour, and we were seated pretty quickly for breakfast with a lovely (ha) view of the casino.
The Henry had been chosen because of its proximity to the Bellagio (which had food that was a bit too upscale for our NH tastebuds), menu, and the fact that it is an overnight restaurant, so it’d be open plenty early for a couple of east coasters.
Breakfast here was excellent. Friendly and efficient service and great food. We both really enjoyed it. Nick had some mocktail to drink, we split the beignets (which were more like doughnut holes than traditional beignets) as a breakfast appetizer, Nick had a breakfast platter, and I had the short rib benedict. All of the food was excellent! I’d eat here again and recommend it without hesitation.
We headed back to the Bellagio where I packed up the backpack for today’s grand adventure, and then while Nick decided if his digestive system was ready for our road trip, I headed down to the Bellagio Conservatory to check that out. There’s no time to waste on this trip!
The Conservatory was beautiful! The lobby is too! And minimal people at this hour still!
While there, a fellow guest saw the Acadia National Park shirt I was wearing and started chatting with me. Said guest apparently works for the parks service. He asked if we were going to the Hoover Dam, and when I said “today” he pulled out his phone to show me pictures of bighorn sheep that hang out in a park near the dam. He gave me directions that would not be out of place in New Hampshire (turn left at the Chevron and drive past the baseball fields), and I made a mental note of the address that was stamped on the pictures. Obviously this needed to be added to the itinerary!
I walked back to the room and excitedly told Nick that we might get to see bighorn sheep today. We’d seen them once in Colorado, by pure luck, and they’re a pretty cool looking creature. He was intrigued.
