The day started surprisingly later than it has recently, and the dogs let me sleep until about 5:30. Woah. I swear Qinn has had me practicing for departure morning lately. Then it was fast forward, because I hadn’t really started packing at all yet for the trip. EEK.
And yes, Gizmo was unimpressed and tried to hide amongst my clothes so I’d accidentally pack him too.
Nick left for work, the packing got done, the car got cleaned out, the dogs got dropped off at the pet resort, and I did a whole bunch of errands. I wrote down actual directions to places in case of anticipated limited cell service, and Google Map satellite viewed places to figure out parking, fuel stops, etc. Then I painted my toes and when there was still time left, I started this trip report.
On one hand I have no idea how I used to handle leaving for a vacation the day school ended for break, because I have no idea how I was ever packed in time. On the other hand, having all day to get ready doesn’t seem to work for me either. One of these days I’ll find the balance. Actually, probably not. Maybe someday the school year won’t be quite so busy. Also, probably not.
Nick got home from work shortly before 6. We loaded the car, shut the water off to the house and headed for mom’s, with a stop at Wendy’s for dinner. High class I know!
We got to mom’s about 7 and visited for about half an hour before our driver, Kevin, arrived to bring us to Boston. Masks were not required for the ride, which made Nick happy, but there was plastic sheeting hung between the front and backseat, which was…unique.
It was an uneventful ride and we pulled up to the Hilton Garden Inn just before 8:30. Revenge travel is definitely alive and well; the parking lot was full and then some. I was kind of glad we weren’t doing a stay, park and fly as we had originally planned.
Despite the crowds, check in was quick and soon we were in our room for the night, 411, where I was relieved to see a shower that did not require an extra degree to know how to operate, unlike our last stay here.
We showered, set the alarm for 3 am, and crashed for the night. I almost slept through the night which is nothing short of amazing for me these days.
