February 2023: A Central FL Theme Parks Trip: Day 5, Part 2

Day 5, Part 2

We continued wandering until Canada where I decided the movie there would be a great stop for some sustained AC. The Martin Short version was better, but it’s still a much better movie than the one in China or Impressions de France.

Movie watched, we headed for a bit more AC, taking pictures on the way.

I knew we were getting close to boarding group time, so we hit the Pixar shorts for another air conditioned break. These were cute, but when did the floor start moving here? I don’t remember that happening last summer?

When the shorts ended, I saw that our boarding group had been called (probably about the same time that we sat down in the theater), so we headed for Guardians of the Galaxy. For reference, we were boarding group 97. At 7 am, the estimated callback time was after 6 pm. We actually got called just after 2 pm. We got there about 2:35 pm.

We had to wait over 30 minutes to actually get on the ride. We got Disco Inferno as our song. I enjoyed it. Nick appeared to enjoy it, but later said that it was basically just a faster version of Spaceship Earth. WHAT???!

After saving the galaxy, it was time for a real break. We had been considering going back to the hotel and returning to the park, but a) I didn’t really want to give up my really good parking spot and b) I was afraid if I laid down at the hotel, I’d be asleep for the rest of the evening, and I wanted to catch the lights on Spaceship Earth. Plus, it was around 4, so from a time standpoint, no.

So, we headed for the monorail. We took it to the TTC, and then transferred to the resort monorail. We rode to the Contemporary.

At the Contemporary we hopped off the monorail, poked around in the store, and then grabbed seats by the big windows. Other than a distinct moldy smell, this was a great spot to kick back for, honestly, about a solid hour. We had easy access to a store to resupply our water and Powerade needs, the seats were comfortable, and the area was relatively quiet.

Once we’d sufficiently cooled down and just generally had a good break, we headed back to the monorail. I believe this is the one where we ended up experiencing “routine maintenance checks” on our approach to the TTC. Basically they seemed to be testing the horn and the brakes. So…that was fun…

Eventually we were allowed off the monorail and we headed for the Epcot platform. A monorail came along a few minutes later, and I enjoyed the sights and construction updates as we approached Epcot.

Once back at Epcot, we had a bit of time until it would be dark enough to see the lights on Spaceship Earth, so we decided we needed some food. But I wasn’t exceptionally hungry, and Nick was all concerned with finding something “interesting” since we were in Epcot. Since we couldn’t come to a solid conclusion on what was interesting, I decided I could go for one of the milkshakes I keep seeing so much about at Connections. When Nick saw the description, he decided that could be a good contender, so we both got apple pie gelato milkshakes. There were no regrets with these.

By then it was late enough to see some lights. We caught part of the new Encanto light show, plus the 40th anniversary one, and just generally enjoyed watching the lights change colors. Obviously, I took too many pictures. The Epcot Beacon of Magic is by far my favorite part of the whole 50th celebration.

After taking way too many pictures, we headed out of the park. It was an easy drive back to the hotel, where I showered and crashed hard. I was exhausted. And Mr. Must Find Interesting Food had some leftover pizza for a late dinner.
