In March 2021, I decided that since I was planning a laid back (ha!) summer vacation in Disney, and since it’d be the 50th anniversary celebration, I should plan a real Disney trip for February vacation 2022. I assumed it’d be solo, since I was a little unclear on how much vacation time Nick has (still a relatively new job). In May 2021, as mask mandates lifted and things started looking promising on the Covid front, Nick announced he wanted to join me for this February trip. So I quickly got airfare booked for us, and adjusted the dates of the hotel reservation to better align with Nick’s work week. And then I spent the summer rebooking hotel reservations as more hotels re-opened and I realized how many summer school hours I was working.
And then a lot of shit happened and I spent months doubting both the viability of the trip and whether it would remain a couple trip. There was the Delta surge. Masks came back. There were simultaneous crises with my grandparents. There was the Omicron surge. There was the realization of how little PTO Nick really has. And there was this absolutely insane school year. Yes, believe it or not, a school year could get crazier than the last 2.
Thankfully quarantine times were shortened and Nick was handed his 3-year anniversary 3rd week of PTO approximately 2 weeks before he brought home Covid. We both dealt with Omicron. Thankfully it was a cold for him, and even less than a cold, followed by a sinus infection for me. By early February we both were healthy and not too worried about the risk of catching Covid on vacation, and Nick still had enough PTO for both this trip and our April vacation trip (stay tuned!). By mid February Disney did away with their mask requirement which made Nick very happy. We watched just enough Star Wars movies for me to maybe understand what I was about to see in Galaxy's Edge. I spent every (rare) spare second analyzing wait times and practicing obtaining lightning lane. We were ready.
The months turned to weeks, then days. The week leading up to the trip was spent in communication with JetBlue thanks to the need to fix an error on Nick’s ticket (he’s most definitely not a Mrs.), and then weird messaging on our itinerary following that fix. The final day before vacation became a snow day, and 24 hours before departure to Boston I was shoveling 6 inches of snow. The packing got done earlier than anticipated thanks to the snow day. I was really grateful that I had changed the dates of the trip when Nick decided to go. Flying out on a Sunday after an all day Friday snowstorm is way less stressful than my previously planned Saturday departure.
So…the details:
Saturday 2/26, Nick will work a full day, then we’ll drive to Boston for the night, where we have a “Park, Stay and Go” rate booked at the Hilton Garden Inn Logan Airport
Sunday 2/27-Saturday 3/5 we will tackle Disney. Staying at Port Orleans French Quarter, with half a dozen dining reservations, all places that one or both of us have been wanting to try, and 4 day park hoppers.
Flights: JetBlue nonstop BOS-MCO
Orlando Ground Transportation: Tiffany Towncar
