February Vacation 2022: A Non-Solo Disney World Trip: Day 3 Part 2

Day 3: Part 2

We had some time to kill before the next timed thing I was aiming for, so our next stop was Muppets. This was posted as something like a 20 minute wait but it actually was a walk-on (walk-in?).

We made it out of the science lab alive and continued into the main part of the park. We still had a bit of time so we stopped into Vacation Fun, which is a Mickey and Minnie short. This theater had really adorable chairs.

That is the only thing that this particular show had going for it. This short was a serious head scratcher. Nick described it as Mickey and Minnie crossed with Spongebob. I’m not sure on that, but…once was definitely enough.

Having escaped that show, we headed down Sunset for the 1:00 showing of Beauty and the Beast. We grabbed seats towards the back of the theater. I’d only seen this show once before, and Nick had never seen it, but I remembered it being excellent, and I had heard some of the current distancing measures in the performance were kinda comical to see. So we had to see it.

As expected, the show was in fact excellent. And yes, some of the distancing measures are pretty awkward, making certain scenes pretty amusing. Beauty and the Beast is always worth seeing, but it’s especially worth seeing now, if you can appreciate the humor in the awkward.

While we had been waiting for the show to start, I’d mobile ordered the Glimmer Shimmer Blondie from Fairfax Fare. After exiting the show, I hit “I’m here” on the mobile order and went looking for Fairfax Fare. This took some effort, but I finally found the right stand and got my dessert.

The Glimmer Shimmer Blondie is one of the 50th anniversary treats. It’s amazing. Nick and I split it while sitting on a bench on Sunset, and it was a great midday treat. Seriously, try this blondie.

Dessert consumed, we did some picture taking. I was on a quest to get pictures of all of the 50th statues over the course of the week. It was time to start that quest. And we found some chipmunks while we were at it. One of the was even playing rock, paper scissors with a kid. Seriously…these character sightings are just SO Disney. Love them!

We made our way to the exit by way of the air conditioned stores and then did a little duck spotting before we truly left the park for a bit.

Picture taking done, we made our way out of the park for a break and were on a bus pretty soon after. It was a short ride back to French Quarter, where we stopped to refill our mugs and then went back to the room for Nick to nap and me to charge my phone.

Eventually it was time to get moving. We took a look at menu options for Studios and weren’t super excited, so we hit the food court. We both got gumbo and I also got us the 50th anniversary (raspberry) cheesecake dessert to split. It was all delicious, and that gumbo was a deal! It really was a massive serving, for $8.99. We actually probably could have split one bowl of gumbo.

Dinner finished, I took a few pictures of the Mardi Gras decorations that had appeared over the course of the day.

Then it was time to go back to Studios. I don’t think our wait for a bus was all that long, and after a detour through Riverside, we were back at Studios. First stop when we got there was Star Tours. It was posted as a 30 minute wait, which is a bit excessive, but we had time to kill. But, it actually was a walk-on.

We headed back into Galaxy’s Edge, where we were planning to single rider line Smuggler’s Run again, but the single rider line was closed! After a bit of internal debate, we decided to go for the standby line. It was posted 55 minutes and we were hoping it would be shorter than that since that seemed to be the trend, but we had plenty of time to kill.

The wait ended up being 45 minutes until we hit the pre-show. And when they started sorting us, we realized they were giving each party their own Falcon. We both got to be pilots, and we were the only people in our Falcon. So awesome!!

Obviously, that experience was more than worth the wait! Afterwards, we walked around taking a few more pictures and then parked ourselves for a bit.

Why is this notable? Well… this woman with a thick British accent came along, struggling with her magnetic Porg that didn’t want to stay on her shoulder. Proving how New Englanders got their speech patterns, everytime she said “porg” it sounded more like “pog”. As she went on her way, Nick leaned over to me and said “and THAT little thing on her shoulder is where POG juice comes from”. We both got a good laugh out of his interpretation.

Then we headed for Oga’s, but got sidetracked by a really cool Photopass spot. I wish I had gotten our photographer’s name because he was just awesome. He was in this to have fun and he really played with different options. We got some cool pictures too.

Then we checked in at Oga’s. The girl at check in was not friendly at all, but everyone else was great. We, as a couple, were obviously stuck in the back corner, but we still had a good time. We had two rounds of drinks and took in the atmosphere. It’s wicked loud in here. We had an awesome server and my drinks were both good. Nick was the king of not great drink ordering on this trip, so he found both of his choices “kind of weird”. The first round was the Outer Rim for me and the T-16 Skyhopper for Nick. The second round was the Fuzzy Tauntaun for me and the Rodian Rations (essentially drunken jello) for Nick. We both decided we were really glad we came here once, but it’s not necessarily a must do for every future trip.

Two rounds consumed, we headed out into a closed park. We took advantage of the opportunity to just stroll out of the park and take in the lights without as many people around.

The trip back to the hotel was uneventful and I think we both crashed pretty quickly. It had been a great day!
