February Vacation 2022: A Non-Solo Disney World Trip: Day 1

Day 1: Saturday February 26, 2022

The day started VERY early with me shoveling the plow speedbump that had re-appeared overnight and clearing the last of the snow that had fallen overnight…in -2 windchills. Yeah, you read that right. Is it Disney time yet?

Nick left for work around 8 and I did the last of the running around. You know…the post office, the bank. After lunch I dropped off the dogs at the pet resort, where Gizmo strolled in like he owns the place and promptly marked it as his own

There were still HOURS left. So I vacuumed. I cleaned the stove top. I did dishes. I organized. I cleaned out my car. I ordered our takeout dinner.

Because it was a holiday week, Nick had worked 50+ hours, so they let him go home a little early. He got home in time for me to run back out the door to pick up our dinner. 2 Monkeys from the Everyday and a couple doughnuts for breakfast the next morning!

We ate, packed up the car and hit the road to Boston.

The ride was uneventful and passed quickly. No really…driving into Boston at 8 pm on a Saturday requires doing 80 mph. The trip passed quickly!

I got us checked in and then we parked out in the back 40 of their massive parking lot, after unloading the luggage in the middle of the travel lane in the parking lot so we wouldn’t have to unload it into a snowbank. The downside to a lot where people park for an extended period of time in the winter is that the actual parking spaces don’t really get plowed, so it was a bit of a mess.

Getting to the hotel from the car was a bit of an adventure. Despite the brutally cold start, the day had warmed enough for some melting to occur, but by the time we got there, temps were below freezing again. This led to some serious black ice right in front of our car. I’d spent the weeks leading up to the trip freaking out about the prospect of falling on ice in our not-so-snowy-very-icy winter, only to show up in this parking lot and go skidding across the ice 12 hours before I was set to get on a plane for a trip with a ton of walking. Yup. But we both stayed on our feet and made it into our hotel room, which was at the very end of the hallway.

They were completely full tonight for obvious reasons, so they’d stuck us in an accessible room. This room was massive. And had 3 shower heads in the shower, all with their own controls, which was way more than my brain could handle at this point in the school year.

Eventually I had figured out how to shower and we settled in for a short night. Tomorrow we were going to Disney!
