April 2019: A Disney Fantasy Vacation: Day 4

Day 4: Monday April 22, 2019

It was another incredibly restful night, and I actually managed to sleep past sunrise. Not much past it, but I did manage to sleep until the sun came up. Go me!

Being that it was the second sea day in a row, Disney apparently expected all of us to sleep in more, so Cabanas opened even later for breakfast today. I read and watched the bridge report/tracker channel on TV for awhile, before I finally let Nick know I was going to breakfast. Surprisingly (after all, it was past the first day of vacation!), he dragged himself out of bed and joined me.

After breakfast we went back to the room and read for a bit, Nick inside, me on the veranda enjoying the view of the crazy blue water.

Eventually, it was time to wander. We attempted to take pictures of me in the fancy chairs, but I just looked like a human blimp. Then we headed for Europa. Since it was early in the day and not busy (not that it ever really seemed busy there), I snapped a few pictures of the totally over the top restrooms in Europa.

Then it was back to La Piazza for regular Disney trivia. We did better at this one than at Ultimate, but thanks to a still heavy reliance on Disney movie questions, our score was still a little embarrassing (12 right...so...50%). But we did better than the teams closest to us?

After trivia, we went back to the room. I think this is when we finally met our stateroom host, Agun. He seemed nice enough, and truly was just like John Charles, the guitar playing comedian had described; we rarely ever saw him, but he magically cleaned our room in the 10 minutes Nick managed to wake up to leave it. After we chatted with Agun, I read on the balcony more because...that view! And the sound of the ocean! And fresh air that’s not freezing cold!!

Eventually it was lunch time. Back to Cabanas, because Nick was a little disappointed we hadn’t eaten lunch there yesterday when we passed through after going to Sweet on You. Lunch was great. And since we both were ready for dessert at the same time, we abandoned our first location, got dessert, and took it to the outside seating area for that part of the meal.

Shortly after lunch, it was time for our return to Meridian. We really felt the boat rocking up here! Mixology should be interesting today! Carolyn was once again in charge, and as much as we enjoyed mixology on last year’s cruise (and we really enjoyed it!), this one was even more fun, thanks to the other people in attendance and Carolyn. Over the course of 40 minutes, we enjoyed a “morning beverage”, made of prosecco, chambord, and raspberry puree, a paradise punch (the embarkation day’s DOTD), a passion fruit mojito, a lemon drop martini, and a cinnamon toast crunch shot (fireball and RumChata). It was a very enjoyable 40 minutes.

Thanks to the rocking of the ship (That’s my story!), we stumbled back to the room. Nick took a nap. I went to the next adult’s only Anyone Can Cook. This one was sea bass. It was once again hosted by the head chef from Remy. This was exactly the dish that I had had for dinner the night before. Yay for a second opportunity to eat that goodness! The pairing wasn’t so enjoyable, so I didn’t pay attention to what it was. Also, it was Earth Day, so they told us to take a picture of the recipe card, instead of giving us a recipe card.

When the demo finished up, I made my way back to the room, where I found Nick conducting yet another snorechestra. So, I changed into my swimsuit and cover-up, and headed for the Satellite Falls area. I found a lounge chair looking out at the ocean, so I parked it and read there for quite some time. It was heaven.

After awhile I did go sit in Satellite Falls for a bit, before returning to my chair to read for a bit longer. Then it was back to the room to get ready for the evening, by way of the towel piles, and the ice cream machine. I didn’t want to hunt for towels for our excursion early the next morning, so I grabbed a pile of them then. Then, I happened to notice that the soft serve machine actually had flavors besides vanilla and chocolate. So, while juggling a water bottle, a phone, and what I thought was 4 towels but was actually 5, I loaded up a cone with strawberry/banana twist. #independent or maybe #stubborn.

First stop once I was back in regular clothes and Nick was awake? The nightly pictures.

From there, it was off to the Walt Disney Theater for Wishes. We really enjoyed this show. Obviously it has the typical Disney cheese factor, but it was a well done production. In fact, we liked it quite a bit better than Dreams, the show that has supposedly won all kinds of awards, that they show on the Magic and Wonder.

After the show, Nick saw the sparkling lights of White Caps, and had to go check out the watches. One of the cast members started talking to us and asked if we had heard about Captain Minnie. I said “sort of”, because I had seen that Minnie had gotten a promotion, but hadn’t had time to really read up on the backstory, since this was all announced about the day before we flew to FL.

Well, it turns out the reason Minnie got a promotion is because Disney has a new initiative where they will be sponsoring two Bahamian women through school to become ship captains. And Captain Minnie would be making appearances at 8 and 10.

Needless to say, Nick and I headed for the atrium, where we found a good spot to listen to the Irish music, and watch the characters dancing. Then, just before 8, we stepped into line for pictures with the newest captain.

By the time we had had our pictures taken, it was time for dinner, so we headed downstairs to Royal Court. Royal Court has the same menu as Triton’s on the Wonder and Lumiere’s on the Magic, and it’s one of my favorite menus. We were both amazed by the decor of this dining room, and felt a bit underdressed. I think we both were relieved when we realized that the next time we would be in this dining room, it would be semiformal night. Tonight Emily and Bryan were at Remy for dinner. Jenni and Ian made an appearance, though. Dinner was quieter than the night before, but enjoyable. I had the fried brie, the potato and leek soup, and the salmon royale for dinner. Sadly, I could not eat dessert that night. This is unfortunate because that grand marnier souffle is my favorite dessert on the ship. Good thing we have another cruise booked for next year!

Upon return to our stateroom, we found the latest creation, then crashed for the night. Tomorrow would be an early morning!
