April 2019: A Disney Fantasy Vacation: Day 5, Part 3

Day 5, Part 3

Tortola’s port area is incredibly clean. Tortola sustained a direct hit from hurricane Irma in the fall of 2017. And that is VERY obvious when you look at the vegetation, and even some of the structures as you sail in and out of the port. But they are working hard to bring that island back as best as they can. As such, the port area does not have a ton of stores open. But we found enough to kill about half an hour, and I was able to find a Virgin Islands ornament that had Tortola, Jost Van Dyke, and tomorrow’s stop, St. Thomas, on it, so I was happy. Caught a few good views of the ship from the port area too.

Back on the ship, it was time to shower off all that Caribbean sand. Then I joined Nick in passing out. I slept for at least 2 hours. Yes, 2 HOURS.

Once naptime was over, it was time to get ready for Palo. I got ready quickly, because it was just about time for us to sail away. I watched that, of course.

We got to Palo right at 6:30, and were seated immediately, with a lesson on the history and design of Palo on the way to our table. Our server for the evening was Rob. He was great. The Palo dinner experience was lovely, and delicious, but I think we both kind of prefered brunch over dinner. For dinner we were started with an amazing antipasti plate. I then had gnocchi for my appetizer (amazing), and Nick had calamari. I had the osso bucco (really good, but REALLY rich) for my entree, and Nick had a seafood (lobster?) pasta. For dessert, I had the limoncello tart (yum!) and Nick had the amaretto souffle. It was all fantastic, and we had an amazing view, until the sun went down. Only problem was, we quickly got out to sea and started rocking again, and I came dangerously close to being rocked to sleep at the table.

After dinner, we went down to Skyline for a bit, where we enjoyed an Ooh La La (me) and something with a glow cube (Nick). We had been wanting to check this place out, and the atmosphere was definitely really neat. But it was maybe slightly too relaxing on a rocking ship (are you sensing a theme here?).

We then went back to our room, where we found what seems to be the classic pirate night bed runner creation.

We both crashed early that night, having decided that we were both really relaxed, and were ok with skipping the Pirate festivities on deck. So, obviously, we woke to the sound of fireworks a little after 10. But we pretty much rolled over and went back to sleep. Those swells are magical for sleep!
