April 2019: A Disney Fantasy Vacation: Day 7

Day 7: Thursday, April 25, 2019

Given the constant vibration, I most definitely did not sleep in on our final sea day. Instead, I got dressed, and took some pictures of the ocean, and then a couple around the ship when I went to get my daily paper Navigator, and turned over the last of the gift cards to guest services for our somewhat horrifying account (How much did my husband drink this week?! Let’s not talk about it…).

Cabanas finally opened for breakfast, and I walked in a few minutes later. It was pretty peaceful by Cabanas standards. And since the seas and the winds had both died down, I ate my breakfast outside. This was one of my goals for the week, since it’s not something I can ever do at home (snow, ice, mosquitos, black flies…). Check!

Then I went back to the room to read, and watch the ship slice through that peaceful ocean. I very seriously considered going and doing the Art of the Theme tour, but, I was too comfortable right where I was. So, I didn’t. Maybe next year.

Eventually Nick woke up and I went back to Cabanas with him. What a difference a few hours makes! I definitely prefer early mornings there!

After Nick’s breakfast, we headed downstairs. Our original goal was to do Disney Tunes Trivia, which was being held in La Piazza, but there wasn’t a seat to be found in there. So, after a quick look at the Navigator app, we headed into O’Gills, where we did Brainteaser Trivia. This was a lot of fun, and I think we got 12 out of 20 right. What is Brainteaser Trivia? Kind of like riddles, and really listening to the language used. As someone who works with language all day, everyday, this turned out to be right up my alley, even though I had no idea what it would be when we walked in.

Glad that we hadn’t just returned to the room when we found Disney Tunes Trivia to be too full, we then retreated to the room, briefly for me, a bit longer for Nick. I then went back to O’Gills for the adult only animation session. I don’t have an artistic bone in my body, and I’m entirely left brained (I became an exhibit in my college intro to psych class when we did the right vs left brain survey and mine was 100% left brain…), but for some reason, I’d been eying this, and hey, we’re on vacation and will never see these people again, why not?

This session was actually really fun, and went better than I thought. Jessie, the same cast member that had hosted Brainteaser Trivia hosted this. She was very talented, AND good at explaining what she was up to. Over the course of 45 minutes, she guided us in drawing both Tigger and Dale. My drawings will most certainly never win any awards, but they turned out better than I expected them to. And by that I mean you can almost tell which characters they are supposed to be.

When the animation session ended, I decided to go see what was on the menu at Royal Court that day. I took a picture to show Nick. As I was walking away, Nick sent me a message to turn around. Turns out he had been at the Bon Voyage Bar in the atrium, and had seen me walk by. We decided together to eat at Royal Court.

This was a great decision. Lunch was really peaceful, and delicious. And Ronaldo was working (but not our server for lunch) and he came over and visited with us too. I had carbonara, Nick had a sausage “burger” on a pretzel bun, and I also had a “salted stitch” to drink, which was a non-alcoholic milkshake essentially, involving, coconut cream, pineapple juice, caramel, and lemon juice. Out of this world amazing. My pasta dish was good too. And Nick loved his meal. We skipped dessert, since the dessert menu was remarkably similar to the dessert menu we would have that night.

After lunch, we went back to the room briefly, and then we made our final trip to the D Lounge for this cruise. It was time for the final Anyone Can Cook demo of the cruise. This was the family one, and was packed. We got a table though. This demo was apple strudel, and was hosted by the head pastry chef for the ship. It was a LOT of fun. The head pastry chef had a great sense of humor, was really interactive, and truly demonstrated how to make apple strudel. The sample was delicious too.

After the strudel demo, we had a bit of time, so we went back to the room. Nick probably fell asleep. I’m a broken record, so I watched the ship slicing through that crazy flat ocean.

Once the one man snorechestra woke up from his nap, I took a brief video of the vibration.

Eventually, it was time to head down to Ooh La La. Why was I dragging my husband into the super femininely decorated champagne bar? It actually was the other way around. He had told me to sign us up for the tequila and margarita tasting. And for some reason, they were holding it in the champagne bar.

Kim was our bartender host for this class. She was fantastic. Over the course of the tasting, we had the Patron Reposado, the Patron Anejo, the Patron XO and 2 small margaritas. With the Patron Reposado, we were instructed to sip it straight, and then suck on a lime that had been dipped in salt, and then take the rest of the shot. Totally different experience, and made that horrible stuff drinkable. I might have a bit of a history with the Reposado. Nick has a bit of a heavy hand with drinks. He decided a couple years ago to make margaritas for the first time, and he used the Reposado (first mistake). In typical fashion, he poured VERY heavy. I’m pretty sure a hole was burned in my esophagus. So I can’t say I was thrilled to see that show up in the tasting. But anywho. We did the same process with the Anejo, except with an orange dipped in cinnamon. The Anejo was more drinkable to begin with, but the orange/cinnamon combo really worked. The XO was just gross. That is coffee flavored, and I can’t stand coffee. Nick finished that one for me.

The first margarita was pretty standard. It was Patron Silver, lime juice, lemon juice, and simple syrup. The 2nd margarita was lime and orange juice, mango puree, grand marnier, Reposado, and some sort of champagne, since it is a champagne bar hosting this. I enjoyed both margaritas but I REALLY enjoyed the second one.

Tasting complete, we stumbled back to the room to get ready for the evening. It was semiformal night tonight. Once ready (yes, Nick did a great job following my packing instructions…), we headed to the atrium for pictures before the show, since we were pretty sure the character dance party that was scheduled between dinner seatings would make picture taking a bit difficult. And yes, when we saw the pictures, we did debate what to name the newly present spare tire. We settled on Michelin, since I’m not a fan of the spare tire, and I killed 2 sets of Michelins on my current car in approximately 85,000 miles.

Picture taking complete, it was off to the Walt Disney Theater for the last time (for me anyway) this cruise. Tomorrow’s show, some Illusionist, David Davinci, held no appeal. Tonight’s show, though, was the stage show, Believe, so that was a no-brainer.

Throughout the cruise, we had noticed the large variety of collectible “sippers” available at the bar outside the theaters (and therefore, in the theater). Several, I had noted, were ones reported to be constantly selling out in the parks. Tonight, there was a new addition: The Gauntlet. I’m told this has to do with Avengers. I also know my husband was the owner of one within minutes of us taking our seats in the theater.

Believe was good, with some phenomenal singing and dancing and sets, but I liked the story line of Wishes better.

After the show, we headed for the atrium, and up to deck 4. The character dance party was about to start, and we figured that’d be entertaining to watch. It was. Each character danced to one song on the stairs, while the others were in the crowd dancing with everyone in attendance. As each song ended, they rotated. It was, as with all things Disney Cruise, very well organized. And it was pretty entertaining.

When the character dance party ended, it was basically time for dinner, so we worked our way down to Royal Court. Tonight was the Captain’s Gala menu. I had the prosciutto appetizer (yum), the oxtail soup (wow!), the parmesan chicken (good enough), and the raspberry creme brulee for dessert. Nick had the lobster tail. Beyond that? Your guess is as good as mine! All of our tablemates were in attendance tonight, and we even managed to get Jenni and Ian talking a bit! It was another enjoyable dinner!

After dinner, we went back to the room to change into more comfortable clothes. We found the simplest, and yet, my most favorite, bed runner animal of the trip.

Then we headed out again, with me staying in the atrium to listen to (who else?) Ciaran and Michael, and Nick continuing on to the Walt Disney Theater for the Avengers: Endgame “premear”. I got several messages from him that it was a cool, red carpet like experience.

I listened to Ciaran and Michael until about 10:25. Then I headed for the Tube. Alton Fitzgerald White was doing an adult only “variety show”. This was a half hour of him performing his take on various Broadway songs, mostly from non Disney shows. It was very enjoyable, and really neat in the small venue.

Once he finished singing, I went back to the room, which was still vibrating a LOT. However, after a night of minimal sleep the night before, I did manage to sleep this time around. Nick got back to the room sometime after 2 am, from what I’m told.
