April 2019: A Disney Fantasy Vacation: Day 2, Part 3

Day 2, Part 3

Once muster was complete, we joined the masses headed up on deck for the Sail Away Party. It was only about 75* with pretty high winds, so I actually was cold up on deck 12. Sail Away was fun, and then we headed to the rail to watch us actually sail away. We moved around the top decks a bit as we sailed out of Canaveral.

After we had sailed out, I think we made our first visit of the cruise to the ice cream station for vanilla cones. We enjoyed those and made our way to our room for an “out to sea” selfie before we headed to the show.

Tonight’s show was “A Fantasy Come True”, which is their welcome show. It was cute, with a stage show about a family vacationing on the ship, as well as an introduction to one of the variety show acts, John Charles. He was a comedian guitar player and we very much enjoyed him. We made a note of the fact that we would actually be attending a show other than a stage show this trip.

After the show, we headed for the atrium, to look at our boarding pictures and see what was available for backgrounds tonight. Yes, I bought the photo package again! As we were leaving Shutters, we saw that Captain Mickey was appearing on the balcony right there, and there was almost no one in line. Somehow we both had the same thought, and headed straight for the line, where we had pictures taken with Captain Mickey about 2 minutes later.

Then we headed downstairs where we had more pictures taken and enjoyed the Irish music that was playing. Ciaran and Michael definitely became our favorite cruise musicians that we have seen so far.

Picture taking and music listening done, we retreated to the room for a few minutes where we found our first bedrunner creation of the cruise, and watched the wake and the sunset before dinner. The ocean definitely appeared rockier than we had experienced on either of our previous cruises and (spoiler alert!), this would remain the case for a good portion of the cruise.

Sunset complete, it was time for dinner! We were in Animator’s Palate tonight. We were the first to arrive at table 7, a table set for 6, and it was long enough between our arrival and our tablemates’ arrival that our servers started questioning whether they had missed the boat.

Our tablemates did eventually show up though. They were two other couples about our age: Emily and Bryan, who recently moved from Minnesota to Illinois, and Jenni and Ian, newlyweds on their honeymoon, from the Anaheim, CA area. The other 4 were all first time cruisers. We hit it off with Emily and Bryan immediately. Jenni and Ian kept to themselves, especially the first night.

Our dining room team was Ronaldo (server), Vanessa (assistant server), and Deniz (head server). Ronaldo and Deniz both had big, Disney personalities and were awesome from the get go. Vanessa’s facial expressions made it clear that she was unimpressed when I didn’t order a drink other than water. She warmed up a bit over the course of the week, but she was certainly no Ronaldo or Deniz.

Dinner was enjoyable, both in terms of food, interaction with Emily and Bryan, interaction with Ronaldo and Deniz, and the Crush show was cute. I had the pasta truffle appetizer, the potato soup, the chicken entree, and the apple crumble rice pudding for dessert. I wasn’t too wild about the dessert, but the rest was delicious. And service was so efficient, that for the first time ever, we were out of dinner before 10 pm.

Despite wanting to go to the adult show John Charles was doing that night, we knew we couldn’t stay awake long enough, so we headed for the room. Then, remembering the full moon had been the night before, I went up on deck to see if I could get any pictures of it. It was hiding behind a pretty thick cloud bank, so I took a quick picture of the top decks at night, and headed back to the room.

The boat was bobbing, thanks to the consistent 5+ foot swells that we experienced for the first several days of the cruise, so I was rocked to sleep in no time at all.
