April 2019: A Disney Fantasy Vacation, Day 5, Part 2

Day 5, Part 2

The half hour ride over to Jost Van Dyke passed quickly. It did rain a bit more, making us extra glad we were inside. Interestingly enough, the crossing to Jost Van Dyke was smoother than the entire cruise had been so far. By the time we got to Jost Van Dyke, the sky looked less threatening. They passed out life jackets to half the boat, and transferred them to a flat bottom boat (the red thing that doesn’t really look like a boat in the pictures) to go the last 50 yards to the beach, where they dropped a ramp so that everyone was transferred truly to the beach. While we were waiting to transfer, Wayne shared that Disney excursions are the only ones he does that process for. The Disney secret shoppers didn’t like the idea of people swimming in.

We didn’t have to wait long, and then it was our turn to transfer. The process was quick, and very soon, we were walking toward the Soggy Dollar Bar. Why else did you think a couple of people from NH who don’t really love beach time would do an excursion to Jost Van Dyke. I’m pretty much going to let the pictures do the talking. We had about 2 hours here, and spent those 2 hours in the vicinity of the Soggy Dollar. I spent about 45 minutes of that time in the ocean (which felt wonderful). It was a great morning. Loved the minimal crowds of getting there so early (they really picked up as we were leaving), the “world famous” painkillers went down easy, the views were stunning, and the weather was pleasant for us northerners.

About 11, we headed back down the beach to meet the boat, which was now bringing in the afternoon group. Before we got back on the boat we used our drink tickets to get 2 bottles of water for the trip back. If anyone was wondering, the area with the funky shaped canopy is reserved for the Disney excursion. Soggy Dollar was just a short walk down the beach, and where we hung out.

The trip back involved the same transfer process in reverse. We got seats outside this time, and it was an enjoyable ride back, with great views, some sunshine, great music and laughs, and another round… Miguel was a bit surprised to find us still upright, when he heard we had each had 2 painkillers at the beach, prior to the round on the boat. Hey, we’re northerners!

Once we were back at the ship, we went back to the room, put on regular clothes, and went to Cabanas for lunch. After lunch, I took a few pictures from our veranda, and then we headed back out, to check out the port area.
