Land, ho!
Really. I woke up and rolled over to see us sailing by a mountain. Or, at least it looked that way laying in bed. Actually, no, the Virgin Islands really are hilly!
I spent quite a bit of time on the balcony, watching us approach Tortola, and watching the sunrise.
You may have noticed the gray, and perhaps even the rain. Typical. We have a beach excursion planned for today.
Eventually I got dressed in a swimsuit and coverup, and went down to guest services for a copy of the paper Navigator. I really prefer the grid view on the paper to the app. Sadly my phone was not with me when I discovered that a rainbow was visible off the port side of the ship, and it seemed to end at the ship. It was going to be a good day.
I went back to the room, Navigator in hand, and woke up Nick. I ate a breakfast bar in the room, because it was early, and we were going on an excursion VERY soon. Nick went to the buffet for breakfast.
When Nick returned, we finished loading up the beach bag, and headed for the Enchanted Garden for our 7:30 meeting time. Yes, I do wonder why they put the earliest excursion meetings so far from most people’s rooms. It was close to the gangway though.
Check in was quick, and as I held these 2 tickets, “Two tickets to paradise” was playing in my mind.
Once checked in, we were told to grab “magic carpets” (towels) and go have a seat inside. I think we were given Aladdin stickers for this excursion. We found a table, and proceeded to occupy ourselves while we waited.
Right before they sent us on our way, they handed out ponchos to everyone just in case of more rain. You read that right. We received the same Disney parks ponchos that cost some obscene amount in the parks for no additional cost. This port adventure is already valuable.
Pretty soon we were working our way off the ship, and making the brief walk to our next boat. The rain had stopped, but it was still pretty gloomy looking. Oh well, probably better for my NH skin.
It was a very quick walk to our next boat, the Bell Arosa. Nick and I were able to find a seat inside under cover. It would be about a 30 minute trip over to Jost Van Dyke. We were introduced to our Captain Wayne, and his crew Miguel, and someone that didn’t talk much. Wayne and Miguel were super friendly and funny. They collected tickets, gave out wristbands and (kiddie) drink tickets, gave the safety briefing, and we were off!
